D&Print- Linoleum

In D&Print we've started on making linoleum stamps and the requirement is that the picture is our own original, so you can't make a stamp of spongebob. My picture is one of those old wooden ships sailing in the ocean during a lightning storm. I wanted something with the ocean bc its my favorite place to be, it's unpredictable and has..'mood swings';the ocean can be quiet and peaceful one hour and then the next winds can be picking up and the ocean is raging. The ocean also contains every color imaginable and can't fully be contaminated by humans since we do not have the power to reach it's deepest and darkest depths. I used a wooden ship from the old days because I think it's an amazing concept that something so heavy could still float; I also love them and have always wished I had lived back when they were the main transportation because I'd love to try and climb up the mast to loosen sails and sit way up high in the crows nest looking for land with the wind in my face- it was one of my childhood dreams. I wanted lightning because its so amazing-lights flashing throughout the sky, frying anything in its path. I love going out in thunder storms to watch the lightning shows, it's exhilarating to watch.
Honestly whenever I thought of linoleum, I always pictured a type of metal. I'm not sure what spurred on that idea but it definitely shocked me when I got my slab of linoleum and realized that it was very similar to leather-dry stage of clay.I started carving the linoleum yesterday and it took a while to get the right amount of pressure to gouge out pieces of linoleum without slipping and leaving giant scratches but as I got the hang of it a began enjoying it as then fun, new experience that it was. Hopefully I won't mess it up :)
